We can start a ripple effect – it is not about receiving credit for helping, it is about igniting the desire to help others. Kindness is the smartest investment that you can make. At first it may take a while to increase, but after purchasing multiple stocks, you will find that you are rich. Yet it does not only affect you. The beautiful thing about kindness is that it influences other investors and spreads like wildfire.
Girl Talk: We have all been there. At work, at school, on vacation, on the subway, at home, at the store, at the gym, anywhere, someone (typically a man) has said something that, for some reason, ran through the filter of their brain but still made it out of their mouth. I cannot speak for the entire female population (because I am not a man) but I typically respond at first, and then sink into a black hole of despair, close my mouth, widen my eyes, and internally scream since (a) the person rarely realizes their mistake and (b) I know I am going to hear the same shit again tomorrow. In an attempt to save myself (and hopefully others), here is a list of things that I am tired of hearing.
To some, the prospect of a black man dating a white woman leads to a highly valuable commodity. Single-handedly, or should I perhaps say through holding hands, my relationship ends racism. People believe that our relationship is an indicator of living in a post-racial world but that very assumption goes against that very ludicrous statement. If we truly lived in such a world, my race nor his race would matter. Yet it does, significantly. Surprisingly, (sarcasm) to people who are not even a part of it.
I know that you have a hard time accepting that I’m grown, But it is time for me to start
Love supposedly has no boundaries, yet many people jump at the opportunity to tell you who to love and how to love them. Now, they may have good intentions, and believe that they have your best interests, but they should not criticize who you love. I understand that people look out for one another and that there are circumstances in which an unbiased eye is needed, but unfortunately, ignorance is often the culprit. What if your partner is everything in your wildest dreams and more?
Everyday Parrot would fly down from his tree to visit the massive mirror that remained underneath it. Today was no different. He woke up, groomed his feathers and swerved down to the mirror. However, to his surprise, a monkey was examining the mirror. Frustrated, Parrot flew faster to confront the scoundrel, for the mirror clearly belonged to Parrot. No one else in the jungle ever came to look at it.
